VANDALS decapitated chickens and stamped on 14 racing pigeons in two sick incidents over the weekend.
Eighteen chickens were strangled and decapitated in a shed off Wharfedale Road on the Marsh.

The owner had kept them in the chicken shed for years and had never received any complaints.

And at Sunderland Point, 14 racing pigeons were stamped on and killed after someone broke into the loft.

Police say a wall panel of the loft was smashed and someone deliberately broke in and killed the birds, valued at £350.

Police are not linking the two incidents.

The slaughters occurred sometime between November 28 and 30.

* Also at the weekend, fire crews were called out to reports of youths setting fire to wheelie bins in Meldon Road, Heysham. When they arrived on the scene, they found a rabbit hutch had also been set on fire with the rabbit still inside. The rabbit was injured and taken to the vets for treatment.

Anyone with information should call Lancaster police on 01524 63333.
