FIREFIGHTERS rescued a woman from a house fire in the early hours of today, Tuesday.
Crews from Lancaster and Morecambe wearing breathing apparatus had to force entry to the Newsham Road property and rescued the woman who was asleep downstairs.

It is believed she had had been drinking, attempted to use the grill to make something to eat and then fell asleep with the grill still on.

A neighbour heard the smoke alarm sounding and promptly called the Fire Service.

A fire service spokesman said without the actions of this neighbour and a functioning smoke alarm, this incident could have been much worse.
