PUPILS at Ripley St Thomas High School maintained their high standards with 74 per cent of pupils gaining five GCSEs at C and above, including english and maths.
This is the same figure as last year, but the school boasted success stories with Alex Mace achieving 11 A* grades.
Gareth Watson and Caroline Xu gained nine A* grades and Sophie Eccles gained eight.
Headteacher Mrs Liz Nicholls said: "We are delighted with the results. Our pupils performed well beyond our expectations and their hard work has obviously paid off."
LANCASTER GIRLS' GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Students at Lancaster Girls' Grammar School will be topping the leader boards again with 100 per cent of girls gaining five GCSEs at C or above, including English and maths.
On top of this, 78 per cent of pupils gained all A or A* grades in their exams.
Anya Borissova, Lizzy Britton, Lindsey Entwistle, Emma Ramsey, Angela Holden and Sarah Molloy all gained 11 A* grades.
Headteacher Mrs Jackie Cahalin: "Last year we had an outstanding year so it would have been hard to beat that, but these results are better than 2006.
"We are very proud of the pupils and they have been a lovely year group.
"They worked very hard, as the did the staff, and the parents were very supportive.
"We invested a lot of time in them and we are very pleased they have done well."
CENTRAL LANCASTER HIGH SCHOOL
Central Lancaster High School topped the national target of 30 per cent of children gaining five GCSEs at C or above including english and maths.
37 per cent of their pupils achieved this compared to 27 per cent last year.
Along with this achievement, 12 per cent of the year group gained three or more A* and A grades with three students achieving as many as nine A* and A grades.
Headteacher Jon Wright said: "The school has beaten the targets set by the local authority and has done well by its students.
"As always I am personally so proud of our students and all they have achieved at every level.
Each year is different and yet the outcomes are as high. This reflects the quality of the staff who work so hard and care so much about the students. This is what makes this school outstanding."
GARSTANG HIGH SCHOOL
Garstang High School's 50th anniversary year got off to a flying start, thanks to its students' unprecedented levels of success in their 2008 GCSE examinations.
81% of the students achieved 5 A*-C passes (in comparison with 50% in 2005) with 65% gaining 5 A*-C passes with English and Maths (in comparison with 41% in 2005). Nearly one third of all students achieved at least 3 A*/A grades (in comparison with less than a tenth in 2005), with 6 students (Gill Ashcroft, Adam Dobson, George Doody, Alex Gabrysch, Jane Howell and Heather Nickson achieving a "full house" of A* and A grades. For the first time, the school has not only met, but exceeded all national and local authority performance targets.
Phil Birch, Headteacher, is delighted by the students' success:
"This outstanding performance is the fruit of the belief, commitment and drive of everyone associated with our school community. Now, we are all energized and inspired to continue our pursuit of excellence and achieve even higher standards in 2009. For the staff and students of Garstang High School, the sky really is the limit!"
DALLAM SCHOOL
We've had a very good year for GCSE's, with almost two thirds of Year 11 achieving 5A*'s – C including English and Maths. Headteacher, Steve Holdup, said "We've got some great students at Dallam, and I'm particularly pleased for those students who have travelled long distances to be here. Hayley Hewitt, whose family lives in Australia and Samuel Walker from Switzerland, for example, gained 17 A*'s between them. Recruitment to our new IB course in the 6th form has already exceeded its target, and these excellent GCSE results will form a solid basis for students' success on our exciting post 16 programme".
Life Long Learners have done brilliantly as well this year at Dallam. Nearly all the grades were A or A*.
Head of Community Education at Dallam, Linda Newman, said, "This is a fantastic achievement for our students. They want to learn a new skill, for example another language, and enjoy their lessons but, if they are doing a qualification, they want to do as well as their children or grandchildren!"
OUR LADY'S CATHOLIC COLLEGE, LANCASTER
OUR Lady's Catholic College came close to achieving its best ever GCSE results.
The school achieved a pass rate of 58 per cent for pupils achieving at least five GCSEs at grades A* - C, an overall increase of 18 per cent.
Headteacher Brendan Conboy said the result was just half a percentage point off its most successful ever year.
More pupils than ever achieved A* grades, while the number scooping A* or A more than doubled to almost 20 per cent.
Mr Conboy, who took over at the school last September, said: "This represents the fifth consecutive year on year improvement.
"I congratulate all our students and staff on such a fantastic set of results.
"The figures show our pupils achieve their full potential and beyond, regardless of their abilities."
Michael Lowe achieved the best set of results, with 12 A*s and will now move into the school sixth form for his A-levels. "I was a little but nervous this morning but I put a lot of hard work in and I'm really pleased," he said.
SKERTON HIGH SCHOOL
SKERTON High School headteacher Chris Trueman said the school could look forward to its new federation with Hornby High School with "heads held high" after this year's GCSE results.
Mr Trueman said: "We set ourselves a high bench mark last year and we have managed to do quite well overall.
"Our students and staff have worked extremely hard and this year's results prove that exceptional students can do extremely well along with others for whom the journey is more arduous, yet, in comparison, equally successful."
There were outstanding invidual achievements, with Inez Budzynska scooping straight As with A*s in Polish, history and ICT.
Liam Doherty achieved straight As and an A* in history, as well as a distinction equivalent to 4 As in performing arts and will now continue his studies at Ripley St Thomas CE School sixth form.
"I was not sure on my science because I needed a B to get on my course at Ripley but I managed to get an A," he said.
"My parents are chuffed."
The government has threatened schools which fail to meet a target of 30 per cent of pupils achieving at least five GCSEs at grades A* - C with closure or transformation into academies.
Skerton failed to meet the target but Mr Trueman described the Government's threat as "lunacy".
LANCASTER ROYAL GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Another new record was set at LRGS
Fifth formers raised the bar with 71.4 per cent of all entries achieving one of the top two grades, A* or A.
The average points score per pupil rose from 524 last year to 578 in 2008.
Head Andrew Jarman said: "My congratulations to all the boys and staff on this excellent achievement."
There were 14 boys who achieved 10 grades A* or better, and one who gained 12 A* grades.
GIGGLESWICK SCHOOL
At Giggleswick, science results were described as outstanding with 40 per cent of the cohort taking three separate sciences. In biology and chemistry 94 per cent of papers were graded A* or A.
Some 94 per cent of entries were graded A* - C, and 98 per cent of candidates achieved grade C or above in both English literature and English language.
Top performances came from Abdullahi Abdullahi, Elliott Smith, Laura Bardsley, Rebecca Barnes, Jordana Hargreaves, and Grace Farmer who all achieved eight or more A*/A grades.
"Once again our results demonstrate that all our pupils, whatever their academic ability, benefit from the traditional and rigorous academic programme offered at Giggleswick", said headmaster Geoffrey Boult. "I am delighted with their achievements, and expect that their value added scores will be remarkable."
Carnforth High School
" Carnforth High Schools' GCSE results this year are staggering. They have shattered all of our targets and previous records. I am delighted for our staff and students who worked with such dedication and commitment to achieve those remarkable results."
Hornby High School
We were very pleased with the results overall, with most pupils achieving or outdoing targets set by the LEA for their achievement at GCSE. Some pupils achieved outstanding results including 25% of the year who gained 9 or more GCSE grades at A*-Clevel. Pupils of all abilities achieved well and we expected the Value - Added for this year's results to be outstanding. Some disappointing results in one core subject meant our results for 5+ GCSE A*-C including English and Maths were below the 30% target set by the government National Challenge. We are very confident of securing even greater improvements next year and moving rapidly to outdo the 30% target.

CASTERTON GIRLS' GCSE SUCCESS
HARD on the heels of last week's record-busting A Level grades, Casterton girls were this week celebrating another successful set of GCSE results. Fifty per cent attained seven or more A* and A grades. Overall, 60% of the results were at A*/A, three times the national figure for those top two grades. One hundred per cent of girls gained the national benchmark of five A*-C grades, including the core subjects of English and Maths. Ninety-nine per cent of candidates were awarded grades A* to C, 34% above the national pass rate.
Casterton's Headmaster, Dr Peter McLaughlin, said he was especially pleased with this year's results: 'There is a misconception that Casterton is highly selective. In fact, we have a very broad range of ability within the school. This year group is talented in many ways but has always had to work hard in the classroom, so I am very proud of them and their teachers for having produced sets of grades that massively outstrip national performance across the curriculum. We have a traditional curriculum made up almost entirely of hardcore academic subjects, including compulsory modern languages and Physics, Chemistry and Biology taught as separate sciences, so it is a very demanding two years for many of our girls. Most heads have an old-fashioned regard for hard work and determination and I am one of those who is pleased to see those virtues paying off handsomely for the Casterton GCSE class of 2008!'
